Public Access

In today's global, mobile economy, Internet access has become a necessity-almost a utility. Wi-Fi interfaces are built into most laptop PCs, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and many smartphones to meet consumer demand. For communities, providing Wi-Fi access encourages economic development and promotes tourism in a variety of venues - whether it is a single local coffee shop, a university campus, or an entire municipality. And for service providers, Wi-Fi is the best way to compete against cable and digital subscriber line (DSL) access, as well as to supplement 3G cellular networks with broadband Internet access and voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities.

SkyPilot's SyncMesh solution is a self-forming, self-healing wireless mesh network that installs quickly and easily, and requires minimal ongoing management. The mesh topology automatically creates multiple wireless paths, allowing the network to overcome obstacles, expand readily into new territory, and deliver mission-critical reliability. Prior to the advent of wireless mesh networking, HotSpots had to be hard-wired individually to the Internet with the expense of digging trenches and paying high monthly fees for leased line services - a costly venture difficult or impossible for most service providers to justify. But with no dependency on backhaul wiring and dramatic improvements in wireless price/performance, deploying Wi-Fi services is now so affordable with SkyPilot that tiered services often include a free access option.

Quick installation, configuration, and efficient remote management enable HotSpot connectivity at non-traditional locations such as public parks, marinas, and construction sites. Service providers and municipalities can deploy public access networks that deliver ubiquitous Wi-Fi coverage, capacity, and integration with major back office software suites to better manage public high-speed Internet access. In many cases public Wi-Fi networks, or HotZones, have become more complex by incorporating multiple service tiers, broader coverage, and multiple levels of security to handle police, fire, and emergency services. To address these concerns, SkyPilot delivers the bandwidth to handle multiple types of simultaneous connections for high capacity data, voice and video services. SkyPilot's powerful Quality-of-Service (QoS) and traffic management capabilities enable guaranteed service levels while also capping subscriber peak rates.

The SkyPilot SyncMesh solution provides the scalability for service providers to increase their market access. And infrastructure products like SkyAccess DualBand help to improve return on investment by reducing overall cost of deployment while optimizing the delivery of reliable Wi-Fi services.
