Synchronous software transforms Wi-Fi devices to WiMAX-like CPE
The SyncMesh Client is downloadable firmware that transforms
Wi-Fi devices into synchronous WiMAX-like broadband wireless CPE. When an 802.11 device's software is “flashed” with SyncMesh Client, it is converted from an 802.11-based asynchronous CSMA/CA MAC to a WiMAX-like synchronous TDD MAC. Upon conversion, the devices function just like SkyConnectors and connect to a network of SkyGateways and SkyExtenders to provide last-mile Internet access services to residential and business subscribers.
The SyncMesh synchronous protocol provides functions found within WiMAX solutions as well as advances found in no other broadband wireless solutions, including:
- Dynamic and synchronized antenna pointing to increase link budget and reduce self-interference
- Contention-less data transmission through scheduled transmissions
- Time ranging function to compensate for speed-of-light propagation across long-range links
- Periodic time slot grants to increase efficiency
