Santa Clara , CA – September 19, 2005 – SkyPilot Networks, a leading provider of carrier-class broadband wireless systems, today announced a series of strategic technology developments and corporate partnerships that significantly enhance its broadband wireless services for the fast-growing municipal market. The company also announced its selection of Fujitsu’s WiMAX System-on-Chip that will be instrumental in delivering one of the industry’s first WiMAX mesh networking solutions.
SkyPilot announcements today include a partnership with MetroFi, the leader in designing, building, and operating wireless broadband networks. MetroFi is using SkyPilot equipment to provide municipalities with an “ all -in” metropolitan Wi-Fi access solution at $50,000/square mile that establishes a new, breakthrough price/performance standard. To address the licensed US public safety markets and other international frequencies, SkyPilot is expanding coverage with the addition of support for the 4.9 GHz frequency band. In the US , this all ows government agencies to deploy a 4.9 GHz mesh backhaul with Wi-Fi access for dedicated first-responder services.
SkyPilot has also verified interoperability and established partnerships with the leading providers of billing and management, back office accounting, operational support systems, authentication solutions, site survey solutions, and Wi-Fi customer premise equipment (CPE) vendors. SkyPilot’s newly-formed partnerships with Airpath Wireless, Ekahau, Funk Software, IntraISP, NetMotion Wireless, Nomadix, Padcom, PePLink, Pronto Networks, and Zcomax Technologies bring interoperable and complete broadband solutions to municipalities looking to provide Wi-Fi access services. By working with Fujitsu’s high-performance, standards-based SoC, SkyPilot will add WiMAX interoperability in a wide range of licensed and unlicensed frequency bands. The company will also be able to leverage its sophisticated Synchronous Mesh Protocol on top of Fujitsu’s WiMAX SoC that will enable SkyPilot to be among the first companies to deliver a comprehensive and robust WiMAX mesh networking solution.
